Alopecia areata is considered an autoimmune disease, in which the immune system, which is designed to protect the body from foreign invaders such as viruses and bacteria, mistakenly attacks the hair follicles, the tiny cup-shaped structures from which hairs grow. This can lead to hair loss on the scalp and elsewhere.

Alopecia Areata Support Community @ www.alopeciaareatasupport.co.uk is for all people living with Alopecia Areata (AA), Alopecia Totalis (AT) and Alopecia Universalis (AU) and AGA (as well as their family and friends!). Share your stories and find support through the message board, post your photos and make new friends! The Alopecia Areata Support Community was created on the principle that by helping and supporting others we help ourselves. Please use AASC as if it were your very own place to share your fears, share your joys, and vent your frustrations.
